Established at the beginning of the last century with a handful of followers, the Swiss Bahá’í community now counts around one thousand Bahá’ís in 200 localities. A functioning administration under the guidance of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Bahá’ís of Switzerland, which was first elected in 1953, is now firmly in place. Local communities are actively involved in Swiss society, spurred on by the Bahá’í teaching that “the earth is but one country and mankind its citizens”. This conviction is the driving force for numerous activities carried out by individuals representing a wide variety of cultural, language, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
It is our hope that a suffering and peace-yearning humanity will finally recognise its underlying oneness, a oneness that we are convinced is the foundation of the prosperity and security of all peoples on this planet.
No matter how turbulent this period of worldwide transition may be, every individual, every institution and every community on earth will have the until now not possible opportunity to help mould the future of the planet. “Soon”, promises Bahá’u’lláh “will the present world order be rolled up and a new one spread out in its stead.”
